14th College Day 2011

It’s been a month since I last wrote anything. Not that there’s nothing to write, just that I am really busy at the moment. While doing my notes on Whooping cough, I suddenly thought of my blog and probably it’s time to give it an update.

I decided to write about the 14th annual College Day. I keep pending the write up on it.

It was held on the 2nd of December, a Friday evening, in Valley View Hotel. College day is nothing but an evening where the staffs and students of MMMC will gather together to remember the achievements of the college for the past one year. Outstanding students and lecturers are awarded on that day. We had the afternoon off that day as all the lecturers were busy preparing for the event.

The night started off with an opening dance to welcome the VIPs. It was a flower dance. The idea behind it was to portray a flower bud blossom into a flower. It was made of 20 girls, each girl represents a petal. The petals open up layer by layer until reveals its stigma. The stigma of the flower was made up by 3 girls, each dress in the traditional outfits of the 3 main race of Malaysia. Those 3 girls were responsible to hand over the flower as welcoming gift to the VIPs.

Following that, Dr. Ullas, our dean went on stage to give a full report on the achievements of the staffs and students. After his speech, the award ceremony began. In between the ceremony, the champion (batch 29) for non-classical Indian dance (group) gave an energetic performance. We also have solo and group vocal performances from our lecturers.

Once all the awards were given out, the BDS western dance troop went on stage to perform.

Like every other year, the sporting lecturers prepared an awesome musical performance. It was really good. They can even dance and sing better than us. The whole crowd was cheering and laughing together. It’s like watching a live comedy show which stars the lecturers whom you meet every day.  That ended the performance that night. Dinner was served after that.

Now, from my point of view. It was certainly a hectic night for me. I was involved in the opening dance and western dance. I practically rush in and out of the hotel’s toilet amp number of times just to change my cloths. I didn’t really have the chance to sit down until the lecturers’ performance. Didn’t get to taste the dinner; was running around to take photos of my classmates and juniors.

As compared to last Collage Day ceremony, it was more meaningful this time. We got to go on stage to receive the awards, perform and enjoy the last Collage Day in Manipal as seniors.

Back to microb. Tata for now~
