Tribute to Mr. Vk

He made anatomy sound simple

He was like a father to us in dissection hall

He made us all eager to revise antomy

He was very patient though we're slow

Antomy was never dry when he's teaching

Be it gross or embryology

Most of us earn nicknames ; genius, platysma,

He kept some favourites; favourites to show us all the structures

There were times we made him dissappointed

There were times he was pleased with us

Recording him during his class is a crime while video recording is always welcome.

He encourage us to take photos of the dead, but himself always shy in front of the camera

Unlike others, we never have time to revise in the 1^st half an hour and unlike others, we always get the best specimens.

It was very emotional during our last dissection class.

Thank you sir for the guidence, love and time you spend with us.

We will always be grateful of the things you have done.

Blocks examination

Block examinations are...er...hmm...stressful? Not really. The questions are not tough, if you study and understand your stuff, it will be a piece of cake. In order to do well, you have to have self-disipline. Consistent in revision, have good time manangement, knowing to set your priorities right and being diligent to learn.

For each subject, we have a theory paper and a practical paper. Both are separately two different component. Theory paper is out of 100 where as practical is out of 50 only. In order to achieve distinction, one have to score 75% in both theory and practical. Unlike MBBS, we don't have back to back kind of examination. We always have a day gap between the subjects. Sometimes our practical examination are carried forward, therefore we need not sit for both theory and practical on the same day. Theory papers are held in the TMA Pai Hall while practical in labs.

Minor class test throughout the block ( one block = 9/10 weeks) do carry some weight in the final blocks result. I can't wait to know my block 2 result... Argh~

Lagenda

Malaysian student from all over India are invited to this event. All kinds of Malaysian food are sold, all which are prepared by students. A line up of dances and performances were also presented that night. Basically it's just a day to settle your craving for Malaysian food. I had a good time hang out with my friends, especially have the tiring block 1 exams. So need it~

Dance to that beat

I was involved in the Muhibah dance (chinese) along with 5 other batchmates. We perform on 2 occasion ; Lagenda & some Pharmasutical conference. If you're wondering what dance, sleeves dance. We had to wear some long daggling white cloth and practice throwing our arms to swired the cloth around. Our seniors from batch 23 Elore and Carol help to cheorograph the dance and we did a few practice session. I kept kena scolding especially when I mixed up which hand goes where and which leg to turn. It all turn out quite well. We were acutally quite nervous about messing the whole thing up. Well, I say, it was an experience. Probably next time wanna try a different dance, who knows~

College day

 It's an annual thing in Manipal. It's a day to award the outstanding student. The dean himself took the time out to personally invited us to the event. Since we are all just 1^st years, we just sit and watch. From 100% attendence to Distiction to Golden TMA Pai Award. Dinner was provided much later. After that, it was photo frezy time!

Ps: The speech was hilarous. Only those who attended will understand what I'm referring to. “I success you in your future” Hahaha

Interbatch

Interbatch competition is an yearly thing. It's a competition between batches where by the winning batch gets a day off of their choice. You have to earn points by joining the events. Normally it's held throughout the month of October, sometimes streching to november. There are two separate catogery; Sports and Cultural. Well, since BDS are lacking of people, BDS batch 1 and batch 2 were combined. After combining, we are still short of a lot of people as compared to any MBBS batch. From what I heard, we didn't do too bad. We won at least 2^nd runner up for the events that we participated.

 I helped up in the chess. I was so nervous especially upon hearing that our opponent are at least state player level. Never I my life have I go for a chess competition, not even witnessing. I say, I did try my best. For chess, we shared 3^rd place with batch 25. Besides chess, I did joined in the Western group singing and also Western Instrumental. Both only securing 2^nd place. (Tell you, the judges weren't being fair) I did helped Silk out in his Western solo singing by providing some minor background music along with Nigel. He sang Imagine by John Lenon. For groups we sang True colors. (*Evil grin* I managed to pull Sonia into this one. She has a very beautiful voice) I played Swan Lake for my instrumental. Judges felt it was too short so they let me settled only with 2^nd. They were very apologetic for that. (I was up against 2 other guitar solos) I wasn't happy with the result, but hey, there is always next year. (I vowed to grab my prize back) Videos are all in facebook.

Mangalore

One fine sunday in our block 2 we decided to pay Mangalore a visit. Well, the main aim was to get a movie and do some shopping which we are so deprived of at Manipal. There are 3 big malls in Mangalore. It was more like a class trip kinda thing. The bus ride was for 2 hours. The big group was split into two bus. One took the red air-con bus and we took the open air one. We were dropped somewhere in the middle of the huge mangalore town. Mangalore ain't like Udupi or Manipal where you can get to anywhere by foot. The town is huge and would probably take you like a week to explore everything. We took autos to Bharath Mall. Apparently it's the only mall which house a cinema. Thanks to the bus, we were almost late for the movie. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollow part1 was showing. The cinema was something similar to the ones in Malaysia. The funny thing is that there was an intermetion half way through the movie, probably to allow people to refill their popcorn. After the movie, we took an hour or 2 to shop around the mall. Lunch was at Sizzler Ranch. I find the food there so-so only. Quite pricey.

Next, we visited another mall City Centre for more shopping.

We had a little difficulty in finding the bus back but with the help of the local's there, we manage to hopped on to a bus. Reached manipal at 10 pm.

Malpe beach

I can't remember was it during block 1 or after block 1 examination that we went to the beach. Anyway, the point is, we went. Who we? Kak Sonia, Jewel, Mel, Chien Ying, Chen Wei, Munn Yy and Silk. From Manipal, we took a bus ride down to Udupi (MRp 5) and from there change to another bus. The bus to Malpe have the typical salty sea smell.

It took 45 mins to reach the beach. We were dropped at a round about and have to walk a short distance. A huge statue of Mahatma Gandhi overshadow the crowded beach. I remembered the sea breeze felt so nice, especially when we are taking a break from all those tedious studies. A dip in the fast rolling waves can make you forget about the origin and insertion of each facial muslce. Okay, that's a bit to exaggerating. The visit to the beach was therapeutic for me.

We all have a ride on the camel. Horse rides are also available. First to go was Chen Wei/Chein Ying then Munn Yy/Silk, Jewel/Mel and finally Sonia/Me~ Now, who say you need to go to a desert to ride on camel.. :p You may also fly kites and go for a boat ride.

We all did some photo shoots with the setting sun and then move on to get some fruit juice. I was actually quite dissapointed that they don't have coconut juice. I settle with watermelon while the rest have pineapple instead.  After juice, we had relatively fresh seafood for dinner. I order a plate of king fish, sotong and shared 2 plates of prawn with Silk and Munn Yy. The prawn is the best I ever tasted. What more, I spent less than RM 7 on them.

The wait for the bus back was long. We worried that we might have missed the last bus back to Udupi. The shop keepers around assured us that there will be one last bus back to Udupi. Once it reach, we were so relieved. The place is worth another visit, probably after our block 3? Hmm...

Endurance, Perserverance, Consistence

Oh my goodness, it's been so long since I update. Block 1 & 2 are over and I'm now back in Malaysia for 3 weeks. When they say dentistry is hectic, they really do mean it. Life in Manipal was actually quite happening, lots of studies and fun I had. Really, I'm starting to miss Manipal already.
