And the waiting game continues.
August, September, October, November, December, January,
February, MARCH! It’s been 8 months of surviving the unemployment angst. Only
God how many more months would be added to that list. Hopefully ‘August’ would
not appear the second time.
Recently, news of dental graduates being jobless has been making
the headlines on TV channels and in the local newspapers. It’s good that they
have shed light on our dilemma but ultimately it just like squeezing blood out
of a stone. The government have repeatedly told us they are trying their best
but with the current economical situation in our county, all government
departments are not allow to create anymore new post. This situation will
remain unless there is an improvement in the economy. What more, the attrition
rate in 2015 for the oral division was only 8%! It is useless to point finger
at the government for not foreseeing such problem would arise. All I can say is my dumb luck for graduating
at this point of time in Malaysia.
On the bright side, I have cleared my panel interview with
SPA 2 weeks back. At least I’m now one step closer to get posted for my
compulsory service. Subconsciously I was smiling the whole day after reading the
email notification from SPA a week before the scheduled date. It felt like finally
receiving an overdue present from Santa Claus. I hitched a ride with Andrew to
the interview center in Putrajaya. There were a total of 6 interview rooms,
each room was in charged by 2-3 interviewers (normally one person from SPA and
the other from KKM). I was lucky to have
Nish to go before me and she did give me a few tips about the style of the
interviewers. I managed to set a relax tone throughout the interview. The funniest
question that I got was, “Why did you wear baju kurung today and where did you
buy the cloth from?”
In these past 8 months, there were many times where I had sudden
moment wallowing in self-pity and indulging in introspection. I was jealous to
see how some of my batch mates have been navigating their way out there while I
have no clue with what am I doing with my life. I don’t like what I have
become. Right after graduation, it was like being pushed down the rabbit hole
and landing into the mysterious land call ‘The World’. Success is so much
intertwine with connections and I’m just a nobody at my current state. Before this,
no one have pointed out what to expect
after graduation, I assumed it was going to be smooth sailing and that I had
the confidence to take on any challenges thrown my way. However, deep down,
there is always that worry of “what if” that continually haunts me. I hate
that negativity. I yearn for the reassurance from the people dear to me to tell
me, yes, you can do it, go for it. I know the Lord have placed me in this
situation so that I can learn some life-changing lesson for the future. Far too
often, I forgot to count my blessing when everything seems so hopeless. As I
struggle to make it out there, I know God above is always watching over me.
Life is a journey, not a destination for ultimately we are just sojourners on
earth before we will reach home, that is with our creator in heaven.
